Gremlins in the bilge

I recently purchased a very clean 1983 Catalina 27. The survey was 11/2 years old but was very thorough and the seller was an honest, reliable guy. When checking out the boat before purchase I inspected the little bilge. Nothing, clean and dry. After test sail, same. Now, for some reason I cannot fathom, I have a leak that will fill the bllge about 3" in 24 hours. There is a visible trickle of a stream at the very aft end of the bilge cavity up under the cabin sole {way back in the bilge}. I have checked the stuffing box, engine running or not ,and there is no leak there. I cannot find any water coming in anywhere near the bilge. Any good ideas? Thanks

How about the seacock for the sink?

On our C27 1985, the seacock for the sink is located near the back end of the bilge on the port side, a leak there would show up in the bilge. The ice box also drains into the rear of the bilge, but that would be unlikley. Keep us posted

H2O tank

Thru hulls are way more likely, but I'd also check the water tank and all the associated plumbing for leaks. On my C27, it's under the port settee & would drain to the bilge area. Also a leaky cockpit hatch would drain down there if it were raining, but I suspect you would've noticed that when rooting around the engine compartment. Do keep us posted.

Is this a rain event, or all the time?

Does it happen all the time, or only when it is or has been raining? I would also check that my bilge pump discharge hose does not have a hole in it causing the water to recycle back into the bilge. The H2O tank and all associated piping that Chris mentioned could certainley be a culprit. I guess a little food coloring in the tank could put that issue to bed. The scupper drain hoses could also be causing your leak, they require some work to access and check though. Good luck

Is this a rain event

Thanks. This is not a rain event. Possible water tank leak,I will check. But leaks more under sail or power. Leak is not from stuffing box. Appears to come in where bilge hose enters the bilge{way back aft}. Because of cabin sole almost impossible to view source of trickle. Not from bilge hose. appears to come in under the diesel engine pan,not down the pan like a stuffing box leak. Maybe rudder post leak? I have never seen it out of the water and don't know if rudder post below waterline. No leaks at any sea cocks. This baffles me unless leak is from external source {I hope not}. I am running out of ideas.
