This music thread has been going for quite a few days now with most postings related to artists or general groupings of songs. I'm wondering if we can focus this down into the greatest single song of all time. MACK THE KNIFE or THE THEME FROM JAWS I think it's a tossup....your choice? Dave

Greatest Boat Song!

No question about it ..... the theme song from the movie Titanic!

It depends on situation

The "shark" theme from Jaws would be great if you had a loudspeaker on the bow and you were bearing down on a disabled PWC.

Anything by Buffett?

Anything by Jimmy Buffett would seem to work, too... So many songs, so little time...

One Guess as to the Most Sung Boat Song...

We have all sung it many times, in rounds....it is..."Row Row Row Your Boat" of course. Don

situation demands different tunes!!

Best of all time?? thats a big order !! how about The Morning After from the Poisiden Adventure.... on a really rough day!!!! We like to play Wagner - The Ride of the Valkyre - while rounding the mark and hoisting the chute !!!! Especially if there is a good breeze and some swell for surfing....in close quarters it has made for some big fun.. Other times call for other tunes ...... One could, indeed, 'score' a race or a daysail ... or leave the tunes at home and just listen to and feel the boat and be in tune with the whole sailing experience....

favorite tunes

When heading out I like Christopher Cross's song "Sailing"...On the water sailing, Jimmy Buffet is good and at dockside The grateful Dead...There are other artists that I like too, the best music is a mixture..........

Good Question

I'm a Bob Marley fan, and reggae has that tropical island feel. But in terms of a single title I'd say either "Southern Cross" CSN, or "Sailing Shoes" (originally by Little Feat, but find the Sam Busch version)

30 Years of Rock and Roll

One might be able to tell from the name of our 42, "Sugar Magnolia" what music is most commonly found playing at anytime we're aboard. Evenings we like Miles Davis. About the only time there's no music is while we are in the act of pulling into the slip. Really like Brian Wilson's solo stuff, sans the other brothers and hangers on, as well.

TOOKAWILE

Well I see your post got moving,so I will contribute my illustrious selection I have thought about this marvelous theme for a number of days, even before you posted it,I knew it was going to be beyond our dreams,so drummer lets have a drum roll for "I CAN,T GET STARTED" by Bunny Berrigan, cause I am a lousy sailor, and dont tell your papa. STUK-IN THE MUD TOM

anchored or underway

I'm new to this forum but couldn't resist this question. Nick's suggestion of "Southern Cross" was a good one. I'm either singing a real sea shantie like "Barrets Privateers", feeling mellow with Enya's "Orinoco Flow", or dancing around the deck when anchored with Dire Strait's "Twisting by the Pool".
