I left the Pass Christian yatch club at daylight early and sailed to east Ship Island where I achored and spent the first night on my way to Perdido Bay. From there I proceeded to Horn Island and spent a night there anchored at the west end. Next morning Day 3 I sailed non stop to Daulphin island off Mobile Bay, Great day first clear day I had. Anchored and spent the night by the sandbar close to the island. Next morning I was up at dawn and made my way on a quarter reach to Perdio Bay. Spent two nights at Bear point Marina and two more days sailing home through the intercoastal. Fun trip. I had hit the weather window just right.

Rick, that green glow is my envy

Rick - you have described the trip I've been wanting to do for 5 years - my boat is in New Orleans - every time I have the time, the weather won't cooperate, when the weather is good, I don't have the time. Two questions: Did you have any problems with your draft in Perdido Bay, and Does Bear point have transient docks, or do you have to call ahead and reserve?

Great Trip !!!!!!!

I have done that same trip twice from Biloxi in a Hunter 25.5. Normaly we try to get to Dauphin Island on the first night and make Pirates Cove (Roberts Bayou) on night 2. We then go on to Pensacola on the third day and anchor out near Ft Mcree. Day 4 is an easy trip to Destin for a couple of days of R&R. We then do the whole thing in reverse WX permitting. Sometimes we leave the boat there and rent a car to return to the real world. I have recently purchased a hunter 34 so I guess I will have to run on the outside from Pensacola to Destin from now on. Anyone have any experience with this trip on the outside ?

You Could Probably Squeek Through Brooks Bridge

There is no chance of making it through the Destin Pass Bridge it says 50' but it is more like 48 or 49'. After all, anyone with the cohunes to fly into a hurricane on purpose would not be afraid of tinking their antennae on the bridge.

Apalochicola to and from Lake Ppontchantrain

I have made the run outside a few times and with good weather it is great sailing. West wind is normal and fine South is good North is good but watch it for change South East is not good as it will mean farthler off shore. Do not enter Destin at night. PC,Pensacola and Mobile are safe at night. All three have good anchorages close to pass. I reentered at Ship Island Pass once (day only) and Bolxi once. Happy sailing

I made a mistake

My boat is not 27 but 25 I guess I hit the wrong key. No, no problems with drath in Perdido Bay as the Oday 25 is a swing keel. The wind was usually out of the north east switching to east late in the day. Which is why I took as long as I did going. Sailed wing and wing much of the way back but still made about 4 knots average.

Bridge Update

The Destin Pass Bridge is now charted at 49' that is still optimistic. The Brooks Bridge and the Navarre Pass Bridge are 50' and posible for a 52' mast if you pick your days so it may be that going outside is the best bet.
