We are having to move our boat from Lake Erie to Lake Huron due to water levels 10-12" below last year. We draw 5'3" and spent half of last summer hitting bottom. How's it your area?

How to tell?
We are on Lake Erie, fortunately with 4' shoal draft. Level looks to be real good but I do not know where the details are found. The NOAA site for Vermilion shows 14.6 meters but compared to what? The combination of lots of snow and the ice keeping evaporation to a minimum contributes I suppose.

Where in Lake Huron?
Where in Lake Huron are you moving to? I sailed lower Lake Huron all last year with 4'4" without a problem in my 320. We moved up to a 356 this year with 5', but don't expect a problem.

If you want misery, try 32 feet down . . .
Between the Corp of Engineers continuing to dump water inappropriately and the drought, our 200 mile long lake is down 32 feet from a couple of years ago. In fact virtually all of our ramps will be out of water by the end of the season. We have about 20 sailboats 30 to 39 feet that probably won't get their keels wet this year. So please accept my sympathy which is real, and my sense of humor which is weird, but allow me to ask the question: really guys where is the problem? <grin> Dakota Jim

We moved to
Grand Bend Yacht Club in Grand Bend Ontario. They have about 6'6 of water there although it is still down from previous years.

I'm on the western end of Lake Erie....
I'm out of Toledo Beach Marina which, I think, is one of the best places to be with low water levels. It's a deep water marina right on the Lake (no canals to worry about). Two seasons ago, the water was at an all time low, and I still managed to have a decent sailing season. Last season, they were somewhat better, and I'm hoping for an even better season this year. We are still above chart datum. I still think it's more of an element of cycle, and I think that the cycle is moving upward again. I read somewhere that, every 30 years or so, the levels go low and recover after a few years. My belief that this is a cyclical thing (more than weather variations) is strictly a personal opinion.
