My wife and I are headed north this weekend for three weeks on our Hunter 33.5. We would like to see the Les Cheneaux Islands, Drummond Island and whatever else we can fit in. We plan to travel along Michigan's east shoreline, then head north to Les Cheneaux. I would greatly appreciate any advice on places to stay, anchor, go ashore etc. Thanks very much in advance.

places to visit

I'm from the west coast of Michigan (Ludington) Most the cities on the west coast such as Holland, Grand Haven, Pentwater, Ludington, Manistee, Frankfurt, ect are all nice. Ludington has a new marina with clean showers and a well kept pool. Easy walk to several good places to eat and a liquor store. You could also drop the hook in PM lake on the southwest corner (Parlor Bay). Pentwater also lots of cool places to eat and see within walking distance. I hear that Manistee has improved their downtown greatly so I would not hesitate to visit there.

Just got back

Got back last night from 4 week trip up east side of huron then across North Channel and out thru tobermorey. Lots of new docks at st ignace, went on to Hessel, but had to anchor out due to lack of dock space. Channel from Hessel to Cedarville not recommended by locals, shallow spots. Detour and Drummond nice. Any other info, email me at c_defever@yahoo.com

Thanks Chuck and Rob

I don't think I was clear about my route. We will leave Harbor Beach (in the Thumb) then head up the east side of the Michigan shoreline (west shore of Lake Huron) then proceed north to Les Cheneaux (probably around Rogers City.)
