Joan & I had a great weekend on the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay for three days. Sailed over to Cristfield,MD in the eastern side of the bay on Sunday. Sunday night the forecast was for small craft warning continuing until Tuesday. Saturday, off the Potomac we ran into some other Hunters, Nimue a H41 getting ready to sail south to the islands, Eagles Wings, a H36 out for a week going north up the bay. Over at Cristfield we ran into the "National Hard Crab Derby" Wow there was a lot of boats and people. Sunday night we saw some of the best fireworks in a long time. Also saw Zephrous H41 at anchor. Monday on the way back to Cobb we had E to NE winds 15-25kts, the bay was building up very fast and had 3-5ft rollers coming down the bay. We took them all in stride and was surfing sometimes at 9kts. Monday we did about 60nm in 9hrs or average of 6.6kts a GREAT ride on a starboard tack the whole way. For the weekend we did 120nm. Oh on Sunday we were attacked by black flies, what the hell are they doing 10 miles from any land... OUCH they bite.
