I guess most of the country is in sunshine now. Not many days like this left on the north coast. Might get two or three more sailing days in but definitely went for this one. I had not been to the lake in six weeks making it even more enjoyable. The lake was a pond while I uncovered and struck the main. So my Erie to Tampa crewmate and I went for coffee. By the time I got out there it was blowing 10 with gusts to 15. Way too much for single-handing a non-reefed main on a Highlander. Consequently I only stayed out about three hours. Just in time to make the 15:00 opening of the club pub.

Tomorrow is to be like today. No sailing though, I have to go to Lake Erie to get my cradle ready. Ladylove will be on the truck soon. I will have to change my avatar from Davis Island, Fl to Huron, Oh.

Ed,

Beautiful day for sailing in Sandusky. I just came back from sailing out past Marblehead and back. Nice 10-15mph winds and dropped to almost nothing as the sun set. It' supposed to be somewhat less on Saturday. I'll probably pull out next Wednesday.

See you out there next year Jerry. Once when going in close for a picture of the Marblehead lighthouse my wife asked "isn't 1.5(meters) kind of shallow?". I grabbed the wheel from her and went hard to starboard. I found out later that the bottom is a rock shelf leading out from the lighthouse. Thankfully I draw only 1.4.

Rocks bad

Ed,
That would have left a mark. Much like the East coast of Kelleys. I overnighted in Huron a few weeks ago and sailed onto Vermilion for lunch the next day. Wonderful sail in 14-18mph winds. Today was nicer with the blue sky and sun. I'll look for you next year. Will you be back in Huron? Harbor North?

That's the plan, back to Harbor North. That's where I bought the boat, where we sailed out of for eight years, and where the cradle is. Funny, a couple of years ago I almost sold that cradle. The thought was Ladylove would stay in Florida. Then life got in the way. Wonder if I will get my old slip back. It was on the river, the south set of docks, about three left of the fairway back to the rack shed.

Nice daysailer, must be a lot of fun. This summer has been the pits here in the wrong coast of Florida; with sweltering temperatures, high humidity and no wind we were starting to get cabin fever. Finally the heat broke with the 1st cold front of the season and our weather is now gorgeous and now looking forward to a nice fall sailing season. I think the trip back North on its own hull would have been nice, but like you say sometimes life gets in the way and we must do what needs to be done.

Enjoying Weather

Beautiful weather !! Not sailing but moving a houseboat .. Messing about in boats.. trip was about 50 miles .. pushing houseboat/fishing camp/hunting camp with a party barge.. Barge has nice vertical push bars on the front, that we fabricated. Boats are held together with the heavy duty ratcheting webbing straps.. In one spot on the lower Atchafalaya, there were 10 bald eagles standing on shore, occasionally fishing .. nice to see those guys numbers rebounding..

Livin' the good life Nick. Never, ever take it for granted. And I know that you don't. Up here we will be riding the bikes whenever the roads are dry. And crawlin' under the boat cover to get a little work done before spring. But we still have a decent long term forecast before they pull the plug on the lake.

And Claude is right, something about being on or even just around the water. I grew up on a river in a canoe, followed by years of skiing and racing power boats, then four more on the USS Forrestal. Still it is where I want to be. Even those hot, hot days working on Ladylove in Tampa were better than being inside.

Getting Older

As I get older I am finding out I can't always do it all and did have to give up the sking a few years back do to the back problems but my love for the water keeps me going either Sailing or Kayaking
My wife likes to travel so we are doing that also like next week flying to Italy and maybe see where my grand parents were born
I do have some bad days with my back but always trying to enjoy life while we still can.
Maybe we can get together net time you visit Florida, where in Ohio are you,I have relatives in Wadsworth and may visit them next years trip in the motor home.

Oh, puh-leeze! You Florida boys need to get a grip. I'm in Maine and as long as there's a way to get the Phoenix in the water, I'll be out there! I haven't dodged ice yet but I'm sure that's coming someday. As long as it's over 40 I'll sail. The biggest problem is I have to wade in about Capt'n Happy deep to get her off the trailer. George Costanza will have nuthin' on me! The docks come out of the water in mid November so stay tuned.

I'm with you Lancer. But Erie freezes over and they drain my little lake. There is still enough water but the ramps are not long enough to get to the water. We have a hoist for the one-designs(my Highlander) but it is on a dry inlet. Do you really keep your boat ready to sail off the trailer year 'round?
