Hi Peggy,I received your book. Lots of good information if you have a real head. I have a porta potti, one of the new electrically operated ones. What kind of tank treatment do you recommend to keep those odors down. Of course it doesnt have a vent for fresh oxygen. Also, with the product that you recommend, how long can one go without draining it if the tank is not full.sorry if this has been discussed before.ThanksFrank GlossCatalina 25 1989 wing keel

Start with a cupful in the tank...add as needed. As for how long you can go without emptying it... Water and waste weigh 8.333 lbs/gal. A small 2-3 gallon full tank weighs about 25 lbs, a full 5-6 gallon tank weighs about 50 lbs including the tank. So how long you can go without emptying it depends on how much it holds/how much weight you're willing to carry off the boat and up a dock to dump it.If yours has the necessary fittings to vent it it and plumb it for pumpout, you might want to consider doing it. Then the tank would be no different from any other holding tank as far as maintenance is concerned, just a LOT closer to the bowl than most.
