grade 8 bolts

Has anyone ever had a good or bad experience with grade 8 bolts on there boat. I am thinking about useing them for my 21 ft mac swingkeel bolts.

It will rust, you would be better off getting the BWY kit, comes with the bolt, nut, cone washers, and rubber seals for about $28

might be ok in fresh water. the grade 8 refers to tensile strength, not corrosion resistance. Which quality is most important?

A 5/8"dia. bolt that you can't easily inspect,that will be in service for many years, that may be in contact with salt water, thats only seeing shear loads of 650lbs or so... I'll take stainless for $300 Alec.:dance:

As the saying goes... If it can rust it does'nt belong on the boat. Well except for tools... Go with a SS bolt... Just my .02
