we keep a hunter 27 on a mooring and my wife finds it awkward getting from dinghy on to yacht. Is it possible to install a grab handle on the transom? thanks

We were on a friend's Hunter and he had two lines attached to the back rails to grab onto, getting both on or off the dinghy. They have knots every six inches to give you a good grip. Thy are just long enough to clear the water, hanging down. I'd try it first, before getting grab handles.
Yes, but also think about upgrading the ladder. Some separation between ladder and transom and the addition of flat steps to the tubes would be a good upgrade.
Johnson makes a product called Sale Mate Ladder Tread. They can be attached with "u" brackets and make it much easier on the feet.

I have a set of those (10 years now!
) and have been unable to attach them 'cuz the screws they include are too short to install around the ladder rungs. Haven't gotten around to finding longer screws.- Status
