I have a 1980 Hunter 27'. It has an Edson Pedestal steering. It does not have any stainless guard piping. Has anyone mounted a teak block or such to the pedestal for the purpose of mounting a GPS unit? I have been thinking of a way in which to create a mounting surface for my hand held GPS unit. My thoughts were to make something out of wood and attach it to the pedestal. Has anyone else done anythng like this? If so, do you have some pictures, etc. that you could share? It appears that the pedestal is constructed quite well and would withstand a few drilled and tapped holes without compromising the integrity of the pedestal. Any thoughts or ideas on this? Thanks.
