I have an old laptop 386 that I would like to interface with my Garman GPS 45 My question is, can I make the two talk to each other and do chart mapping? I have the data cable for the GPS 45 I know that it has data output and input wires but what kind of program do I need and is it available on the net. I know just enough about computers to be considered dangerous.

You'll need old software

I doubt if any of the current software will run on a 386. I know that maptech Pilot v 1.0 will work well on your laptop. Not sure how you'd go about finding that, except from a private party.

Probably to old for charting . . .

but not too old to run software to make it easier to enter waypoints and keep track of routes. I recently tried to find charting software for a client and was unable to locate and that would run on anything older than pentium or equivilant, but I did find the aforementioned database stuff by searching downloads.com. Look out for viruses though. Justin - O'day Owner's Web
