Has anybody mounted a GPS chartplotter on their pedestal guard? I have one down below at the nav station, but plan to add a second unit near the helm. I'd appreciate seeing pictures or plans of your installations. I already have a 3 pod affair with depth, speed and wind direction/speed. That means the Garmin chartplotter will have to go on the stainless steel pedestal guard. Ideas welcome! (picture of our helm attached-ignore the freighter running us over)

Chart Plotter Brackets
I use two Nylon Steering Pedistal Clamps (p 657, Item G in the upper right corner of your latest Boat US Catalog at $11.99 each). I only use one bolt through each one which allows the unit to adjust to the curved Pedistal. It offers a quick release allowing one to pull the chart plotter after use and stow it below.

The pod will vibrate too much and be too vulnerable to lines, etc. I put a raytheon radar in a pod, and it scared me. mount in glass in bulkhead.

No vibration Problem - Used it for 2 Yrs
Wonder why you'd have that much vibration on your pedistal . . . . It hasn't been a problem on my boat and I've used it for two years. Haven't had any problems with lines in that period, either. I really like the fact that I can stow it below when I'm away from the boat. Anyhow, it works for me. <grin>

Garmin GPS 182C
I have a Garmin GPSMap 182C mounted on my pedestal. My pedestal has an instrument pod that holds B&G instruments and I used the bracket that comes with the 182C mounted on top of the fiberglass enclosure. It sits up high and right in the middle of the top radius of the pedestal guard. The photo attached doesn't show my 182C installed, but it gives you an idea of where mine is located. What about those wires?
The plastic clamps are a great idea. Now what about those wires (power, antenae, DGPS antenae)? Is there a tidy way to run all those wires down and around??

Wires
I have the internal antenna on the Garmin 162, so I am left with just the wire for the power/auto-pilot interface. My pulpit on the H340 is part fiberglass with the 1" grab bar coming out of the top. So my solution was easy in that I drilled a small hole in the top of the fiberglass directly under the center of the grab bar, inserted a very small grommet, and ran the wire up from that to the unit. I am able to connect to the auto-pilot and a 12 volt power source in the pulpit. It is quite neat, though not quite as pretty as a hidden wire. If my explanation isn't clear, let me know and I'll shoot a picture this weekend on the boat, weather permitting.
