The admiral bought me an Amazon fire tablet for Christmas. Can anyone recommend a marine GPS app?

Thanx,

I use Navionics on my iPad Pro and my iPhone and am very happy with the performance and accuracy of the maps and charts. You can download it and try it for 15 days for free.

When you say Marine GPS App you are meaning one with charts? Or are you just interested in GPS information? As mentioned before Navionics is available free, you have to buy the charts. I think Navionics can use NOAA charts which are free. There is also Marine Navigation that uses NOAA charts. MX Mariner also uses NOAA charts.

If you just want GPS, then GPS Test Plus is a good app for lat/long, speed, and other things. One more GPS app I like and use is GPS Status. And finally, since my tablet only has WIFI, I use an app called GPS Time to make sure my tablet time is in sync with the GPS clock.

Good luck.

I think the Kindle Fire lacks the hardware to accommodate the use of GPS and it cannot be added via software.

I agree. I don't believe the Fire can recieve GPS signals. And only certain models have bluetooth. You would need to connect a GPS device to it somehow. Then it would be a question whether or not the Kindle OS could run the app.

Agree that (at least my very inexpensive model) Kindle does not have internal GPS. I found this out the hard way after buying ours. No USB port either, so the GPS dongle I bought for my laptop cannot be connected to the Kindle. Your options may be more limited than you think - it's not a typical tablet, but more of a function-rich e-reader with WiFI and a browser.
