Gound Plate?

After investigating my exhaust hose, I found two bolts coming up through the hull in a small compartment behind the engine and starboard from the water tank. Attached to the bolts is a solid(not twisted) copper wire that runs back to the batteries. it was not connected but looks like it was cut to fit the Negative(-) terminal on a battery. Iam not sure if it is a ground plate or a sacrificial zinc.

Thanks Dennis I hadn't even considered that but I believe you are correct it is probaly the shaft strut. Now do you think there should be a ground wire attached to it? how would it affect galvanic isolation? or does it matter at all? Paul
