Greetings all, It's time to paint my trusty Atomic 4. I bought the snazzy bronze paint, but I'm not sure how to preceed. If anyone has painted thier boat's engine before I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks

PAINTING

Ian: I'm no paint expert, but did paint a large part of the Yanmar on my old Hunter 31 before I sold it last year (bought a C-400). No big deal and as in most painting applications, prep is about 90% of the battle. You need to make sure you degrease the entire engine, tape over all areas you don't want painted, and cover all air intakes. Assuming you are using spray cans, simply follow the directions. If you haven't used spray paint before, I'd recommend you practice on a piece of cardboard before starting on the engine to get the spray pattern down. Just remember that you need to briefly stop spraying at the end of each stroke to prevent extra paint buildup at those ends. Really very easy when you get the hang of it. Oh, I'd also tape/paper over the entire engine space since there is going to be some overspray and unless you want gold colored gellcoat...! Good luck and get out there sailing!
