Got our new cushions in...

Now, do we attach the snaps? Concern is drilling 28 holes and then having the male ends exposed when not having the cushions in the cockpit and having to snap them in--- all 28 snaps.
So thoughts? Observations? Our last boat was a 1967 Cal 30, no snaps.
Ordered the cushions from here, they look and feel outstanding.

Are these the hunter cushions you order on line? We ordered them and they are great but I never screwed them down with those clips, you don’t have to

Yes, ordered them here. They came with snaps sewn on. I'm leaning to not installing these snaps, just thinking it all out. Thanks for the response.

We ordered 2 sets from SBO for 2 different boats and never installed the snaps. Never really had an issues with them moving when out. Besides, I'm not particularly good at lining these things up so figures I'd not screw up a perfectly good set of cushions just for a few snaps

If you don't think you will ever be out in a gale, ever get knocked down, or ever trailer on the highway with your cushions in place, you probably won't need the snaps, but they can be nice to have when a 40 knot gust tips you way over and the cooler slides off so nothing is weighing them down any more. This is a sailboat we are talking about.

I’m with Will. Even a 15 degree heel will have the weather cushions on the sole. But you don’t need 28 snaps! Four or even two per cushion will do.

What about snap "extenders"? Fabric straps with snaps on each end. Then install the cockpit snaps on the back and leg areas of the cockpit seating so you don't have to sit on them. Will keep them from going overboard anyway. They don't have to be as precise either.

I have 5 cushions with 18 snaps on my h40.5. I never take the cushions out except for off-season cleaning or to remove one to access a locker. I can tell you that if I don't re-snap the one that I need to remove for locker access when I step on it to exit the cockpit it moves and can cause me to slip or fall. I always re-snap.

I won't comment on whether you need them or not, but I will say that when you kneel on one of those male snaps you will remember it for a very long time, hurts like the dickens!

I put in 4 snaps for each lazaret cushion. But I only actually use 2. More than 4 is overkill. But I would use some at least. Sometimes when Im lazy I wont snap them in right away. They have fallen down to the floor or flipped up when healing over.
