Gori Propeller Puller

I just finished having a custom made propeller puller made for my Gori 2-Blade propeller.

It is a very simple device that I had a local machine shop make. I’ve attached the drawing I supplied to have it made. Please note that this is for a 16.5x13 RH (71961) propeller (1” shaft), and some of the dimension will vary if you propeller is a different model. I contacted Gori via e-mail to confirm the measurements (note that they are in metric).

Once the blades have been removed (which you have to do to get at the prop nut anyway), this puller fits in the slot where the blades were, and is held in place by sliding the blade pivot pins back into the hub and through the puller (I re-tightened the allen screws to prevent the pivot pins from falling out and getting damaged).

I had the matching holes in the puller made 1mm larger in diameter to make it easier to assemble.

I just finished using it, and my propeller hub was off in about 5 minutes with no struggle at all, and very little fuss where as I had struggled with other puller styles.

The following video shows a quick demonstration of its use:

Note that the puller can also be used when re-installing the propeller to the shaft as it can be used as a tool to prevent the propeller/shaft from spinning while torquing the shaft nut.

Pictures & Drawing below (note the cleaned and polished hub in the pictures!).

Cheers and maybe this can be of help to others!

Excellent device, Chris. But, always trying to save money (to spend on some other boat item) I wonder if a good piece of wood (an ax handle?) can be used? I'm thinking either a TEE nut on the shaft side, or better yet, a square nut shaved down to 38mm. I am going to haul out in May, and need to pull the prop for the cutlass bearing replacement. Otherwise, may I ask what the man charged you for this? Mine is a 16.5 x 11, so I wonder if the slot would be the same size. Nice work, and thanks for the pictures- without being asked to!

I'm positive that what I've now got is over engineered. But I started with some other puller that appeared adequate, but ended up bending and I got no where (my prop was not coming off easily) Perhaps with a carefully selected piece of wood. The problem is that there is very little room between the puller (or a piece of wood) and the tip of the shaft (I had a video, but was corrupted). So Perhaps the T-nut, but fitting a nut down there might not have many threads, but it would be inexpensive to try!. Flex-o-fold have a much simpler puller for their similarly designed propellers (see below), while hard to explain, the inside of the slot where the puller fits on a flex-o-fold has an enlarged round centre section allowing the use of bar stock with a single threaded bolt and a bump out around the thread to add strength (the puller pictured below can doa 3, 2, and 4 bladed prop, 2 blade being the middle hole). On the Gori, there isn't the same amount of room in there, and the bar stock would have less that 1/4" on each side of the threaded bolt, and I think would likely bend.

It cost a couple of hundred.
