Hello Columbia sailers... My boat is a 1966 C23 Contender which I have owned for just under a year. Her previous owner spent more time sailing than maintaining, for which I will not fault him. I'm putting her straight now, hoping to have many more years with her, but I need some help.... 1) The boom's gooseneck fitting has corroded at the upper eyelet and I'm wondering if it's possible to a)repair, b) find another. I know a machinist who can make one out of solid billet. If anyone has a recommedation for me, I'd appreciate some help on this matter. 2) I've dropped the mast to change electrics & rigging. The main halyard is cable/dacron and the main halyard sheave, which is set up for cable, is original and looks worn. Does anyone have experience with changing cable halyards to rope halyards and the implications to the sheave? I know that if I change the halyard to full dacron, the sheave will have to be changed to accept it. I need some help deciding if I should a) replace the halyard and sheave, maintaining the cable/dacron setup, b) go with a purely dacron halyard and change the sheave accordingly...will a larger sheave fit into the trapeze? Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron; What part of the country are you in. I am in Baltimore, and we have a number of Columbia Owners in the area. There has been some discussion of the gooseneck on the sailnet site in the past. You could probably search the archives for some information. Let me know where you are, and maybe we can get a committee of knowledgable Columbia owners together. My neighbor, Roy, has a '66 Columbia 26. I have a 69 C36. I will look forward ot hearing from you. Cam Whetstone cam@columbia36.com

Ron, what did you ever do about the halyards ? I have the same problem and I have thought about going with a thin high tech non stretch line on the original sheave, but I haven't done anything about it. Mannie
