I recently ordered a new gooseneck or rather it is two halves of a ball and two springs but to be honest I cannot seem to figure out how to get them inserted between the mast and boom. I would think that you insert in to the mast fitting then attach the boom to it but it won't fit that way. I know with all the owners out there someone has replaced this before.

Old Style

Sounds like you have the old style. Place parts in mast section of the gooseneck, then attach boom my holding the aft end up at about 45 degrees. New style has a pin that holds things together.

Patrick is correct...

the trick is to get a tall enough angle on the boom as you latch it into the gooseneck. It may even be more than 45 degrees. Once in place it is all held together with the two spring clips, one on each side.

Attach the main halyard to the boom....

and lift the aft end of the boom waaaaay up, and it'll slip right in place. One person can do it without much trouble. The trick is to keep them out of the drink when they come out of the metal keeper. Good luck
