Thanks, Phil! they're calling for up to 3' in a swath around Boston and winds that could gust to 90 on the cape - sometimes it's good to be on the hard.....

One of the leading causes of death in a winter storm is related to the use of snow shovels. I guess the physical effort required combined with low temperatures, which tend to constrict blood vessels, cause heart attacks and cardio vascular incidents. I know sailors do not like the noise of generators but the use of a gas powered snow blower would be much better than a shovel. My personal experience with snow removal is limited to scraping it off a car windshield but I just happened to read that about 60 persons died every winter from snow shoveling.

As typical, it has become hysterical-gate..... I guess the grocery stores really needed the help of the media to sell some milk & flashlight batteries.....

This has been a winter with less than normal snow and when we do get it, of course it has to be a blizzard of epic proportions.... Seems like any other snow storm to me....;) Hell last Feb we got 30" and about 1000% less hysteria....:D

We have about 2" here is western Massachusetts but it is snowing quite steady right now. We are predicted to have 10-22" depending upon the exact path.

Bristol, RI, where our sleeping sailboat is located snug under her winter cover, is still predicted for 18-24" but a Providence, RI webcam (about 12mi north of Bristol) doesn't show very much snow right now.

I just measured the deck and we have 9" thus far. Going sledding in a few minutes with the kids....

Our Governor Buffoon calls another state of emergency for about 4" of snow ... again! It seems like we went thru the same hysteria last year for a few medium sized storms. Mayor de blah ... blah ... blah was looking foolish predicting it could be the worst storm that ever hit NYC.

My only problem with the snow was that I had a few extra beers last night thinking I wouldn't have to get up for work in the morning (and I kind of liked the idea of a big snow storm so I thought a little celebration was in order). Instead, I wake up to find nothing new over night and a slight headache (and the eminent drive to work). The only snow we got was the little bit that fell yesterday before the "storm". At least it is looking like winter now.

What would've happened if no warnings were issued, and the meteorologists' worst fears came to light?

Think there'd be some political backlash 'cause the gov't didn't respond "properly"?

It was a CYA move, I believe, costing some overtime pay.

How did we all survive the hardships of life before we had these clownish mouthpieces invading our homes incessantly via TV?

Oh yeah ... I remember an ice storm we had in the 60's ... we had a fire going in the fireplace and we put our ice skates on and actually skated on the streets all freaking day! That was one of those miserable experiences we had to suffer through in those days.

But, but, without government's benevolent oversight...:D

That reminds me ...

I think I saw your picture on the news? To measure snow depth, someone placed six Coronas in the snow.
of the creative dude in Buffalo who opened his kitchen door and carved an ice box out of the snow, stocked with beer and other drinks!

Gunni, that was great! I have to admit that I was gullible until I saw The Onion at the top!

Hopefully our boat won't get wet feet at high tide tonight. We were there at high tide last week and the water was close to the top of the stone barrier. Of course there was one other boat with a wind generator spinning in the breeze. Hope the blades don't come off during the gusts. Good test for the shrink wrap.

Yes, it is hard to swallow Florida Snow Hysteria in New York or Maine. Just be thankful that worst case scenarios did not play out.

Almost never does. They get folks paranoid predicting disasters as though that hype is a public service.

"Neither rain or snow..." Rhyme now and forever dispelled.

Got some data from offshore buoys. Still snowing lightly with winds slowing to 15-25. Snow totals from bare ground to three feet in drifts. Maine TV reporting more of the same. Watch out Bluenoser's coming your way.
