Good location for flux compass

Hi,
I am installing a Raymarine auto helm wheel pilot with a fluxgate compass in my 1982 Catalina 30 with 5411 diesel.
Has there been a concensus of the best location for the fluxgate compass?

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Mine in my MKII is mounted to the area in the bilge where the mast compression post comes down to the bilge. It is mounted near the top of this so it stays dry. I didn't mount it here as I had paid a marina to install my Raymarine S1 autopilot (that is another long story).

Not sure if it will be a good location in the MKI but being that the bilge should be the same it is worth considering. The wire run isn't too bad from there either because you can just follow the other wires out of the bilge and back.
