My Weems & Plath "Martinique Ship's Bell" bulkhead clock started sounding really bad when it rang.. Looked and found the bell had cracked where the striker hits.. Thought that was unseemly behavior in a fine piece like that even considering that it is 18 years old.. E-mailed the customer service folks with a picture of the damage.. They promptly sent me a new one at no cost! I was pleased.

Always figured W&M to be a fine company. That is who made it right. Or did you send it to the manufacturer?

Talked to the W&P folks in Annapolis.. The movement is apparently from Germany..?? Didn't want to send it to them .. which would be their preferred method of repair.. but this was simply replacing the bell, which is one screw on the back.. I don't like manufacturers who won't let me fix stuff..

Me Too

I have a Chelsea shipstrike wind up clock and matching barometer. I have had them for eleven years. The barometer was defective out of the box and has been to them twice for repair. Just the postage is $90 round trip. Now the clock has bonked. This time, hoping for a better result, have taken it to a clock repair place. Not what I would have expected for $1500 (today's price) for the pair. I should have just gotten one of the electrics with the $25 generic movements. The made-in-India brass barometer at home works perfectly after ten years and the (electric battery powered) clock is going great after 15 years. BTW, no give on Chelsea's part for at least return postage.

Here's one for you...my Boston ship's clock works fine except at either 5 am or pm instead of 2 bells it strikes either 20 or 34 bells. I guess I can live with that, but it is really weird.

That doesn't sound random

Ever heard the term it's 5 O'clock somewhere?
