Good deal?

I recently purchased a 1985 Catalina 25for $12,500. The boat is in remarkable condition, came with a three year old double axle trailer, has 4 good sails, electric start 9.9 Johnson outboard, marine head, alcahol 2 burner stove, typical traditional setup, very nice interior woodwork & bookshelves added, all necessary gear for cruising & docking. Standard rig, fixed keel.Any input as to wheather or not I over paid? Colorado is fairly inflated in most values, so I'm curious as to the value of this boat on a national level. a 1985 Catalina 25 just sold for $8,000 two slips

over from me. Had a 4 year old Honda 9.9 electric start with about 20 hours, no trailer, tiller, camper canvas, charger, dual batteries, lots of gear, 4 good sails, looked great. Also carry-on A/C. binini, no furling. also had depth and knot meters and GPS. Brokered sale. New bottom paint.

Depends on market

As you stated, it's related to what market you're in. It's possible you could've bought that $8,000 in Florida that Steve W mentioned, but you would have had to buy a ticket there to check it out, have it surveyed, etc. Then you probably wouldn't have bought it on the spot (although possible) so that would mean a second round trip ticket. THEN you would have had to either drive it yourself or hire someone to do it for you. Nice little drive, Florida to Colorado. So in the end you *might* have saved say a grand??? And you wouldn't have had the trailer or some of the other neat stuff yours came with.I think you paid a reasonable price as well. Definitely not a steal but certainly well within range. the only time what you paid for somthingis important,is when you sell it, or buy it to " fix it up ".you will keep it for ten years divided by 12,500.00 = $104.00 per month. where else can you have fun for a month for so little?, and when you sell it, you get money back. have a good time be proud.

My experiance has been that there is always going to be some Catalina 25 you heard about that just sold for 6,7,8K, etc. I just tried to buy one of these great deal boats; turned out the owner didn't have the title, the hull was recently damaged, etc. I am now buying the best boat I could find, and the prive is not bargain basement. However, I think that years from now I will be glad I did.Enjoy your boat!
