Read the newest article in "Good Old Boat" earlier this week. Don B's article was outstandind as always. The "BIG BED" is a hit! I did mine earlier this season and thank Don for the idea. Although I don't have the carpentry skill nor all the tools to complete the Bed as described in the article (or as earlier described on this forum), Don's Idea was terriffic. For whatever reason or design change my 1984 H27 has bigger hatches under the Salon seating than earlier models. I could not make the sloted boards that the stringers slide into. There is only approx. 2in of clearence from the top of the hatches to the top of the seat. I had to go for a single piece of 1x1 on either side that I attached with 2 1/2 in 1/4 bolts backed by another 1X1. Then I used 6 41" 2X3s as the stringers. I just sit them right on top of the 1X1s. It is still really solid and can handel my 250lbs and my wifes ???lbs. It is more simple than Don's design but not as pretty. The only reason I did it that way was because I did not want to rework the hatches. I highly recoment "Good Old Boat" and Don's articles to anyone with a Cherub.
