My Bene 323 has a Goiot wheel with an annoying shaft squeak. The noise is definitely coming from the point where the steering shaft enters the pedestal.
does anyone have a clue as to the best way to,lubricate it? I tried last summer to shoot some WD40 between the wheel and the pedestal and it didn't help a bit. Short of pulling the hub completely, there does not seem to be a good way to get at it.

Have you always had the squeak? I wonder if the steering cable is too tight causing pressure on the hub.

The squeak just showed up last Summer. I have had the boat since 2004. There is no apparent binding, and no steering effort. I pull up the floor board every spring to check cables and pull out the nests the sparrows try to build in there between the time I take off the winter cover and get the bottom painted.

Good thought though on the tension issue.

I had a similar squeak on my First 38, and although I was sure the noise was at the top of the post, lubricating the pulleys at the bottom of the post fixed it immediately, so the noise can be deceptive.
