Bene Oceanis 370. The steering is a Goiot system but I am having the wheel lock/brake freeze up on me when I use it to freeze the wheel for a few moments. The brake is in between the wheel and the pedestal. Is it ok to use some WD40 on it?
that or some Mclube on the threaded part of the locking wheel should not be an issue in my opinion.
I don want to hijack your thread, but on a similar note, does anybody know how to get the steering shaft itself lubricated?
The very last thing I would ever do to a wheel brake is lubricate it. It may never work again. If it's only the shaft thru the pedestal, then maybe.
what you should do is find the pedestal manufacturer's website and find out how it all works before you do anything. Most good websites have maintenance instructions.
Wheel lock can get tight if spun with wheel. Use the wheel to assist in loosening. Seems like rotation is opposite what you expect. I use autopilot in standby for short term wheel keeper, such as when hove to.
