Hi,
I am going to look at a 1998 Hunter 170 on Friday. It sounds like it is in good shape. Is there anything i need to look at in particular?? It comes with cushions, mainsail cover, trailer, and motor for $3800. Is this a good price?? Is there anything that i need to do to the boat to make it better for next year (common stuff). I am a fairly new sailor, so i am not sure what to expect.
thanks,
shawn

Check the trailer too..

Be sure you have good tires and working lights. Ask how long it has been since the bearings were repacked. No brakes so that's not a problem.

Else, just check over the 170 for cracks and leaks. Unfold the sails and look for damage. If there is a motor ask to see it running in a 5 gal bucket of water at the very least. Check the shrouds for frays. Don't worry too much about the halyards, they are easy to replace and not all that expensive anyhow. If all lines and rigging look good, more the better. Check all of the hardware for damage. Check the mast step. Are there running lights on a 170? Do they work?

Enjoy
