my father and i were out getting our boat ready, the only problem is,we had never rigged our own boat before, and our marina charges money to have it done. having spent a lot of money getting the slip,my father decided,we'll do it ourselves... seeing another h23 on the next dock over,my father told me to go over and look at the rig and see what i could learn. what i discovered nearly made me fall off the dock with shock! the h23 across the way had a diffrent rig and mast! i died laughing. what was i to do? my thoery is simple in this case. hunter switched mast designs. but we cant find a rig like ours. sooooo....if anyone has anything about the "three ropes" running along the bottom of the mast, please tell me...dear old dad is getting rather annoyed.

Ain't no ropes on my boat!

Sorry...just kidding. I couldn't pass it up :) What size are the lines? Are there any other lines. Have you already identified the halyards, and sheets? Give us a little more info. Dear old dad already annoyed? Just wait till you guys get out :) Good luck! --Greg

Some ideas

Those lines in the boom could be any of the following: Outhaul line: attached to end of mainsail and adjusts tension Topping lift: usually runs up from end of boom through a block a couple feet up and then back down (adjusts height of boom when sail is down) Reef line(s): Usually external of boom, these line(s) run up to grommets in sail fore and aft several feet up the sail (allows you to reduce sail) That's all I can think of for now! Best of luck! Trevor

H-23 boom lines

I sold my '86 Hunter 23 last year. Great boat. Trevor was right on. The outhaul fastens to the cleat on the bottom of the boom. The other two are the topping lift, which goes to the top of the mast, and the jiffy reef, which goes through the sail and back to the boom.
