Anyone have suggestions/experience which type of glue works best to secure the rubber gasket material to fiberglass (gelcoat). Specifically, the gasket sealing the hatch cover above a v bearth. Silicone, contact cement, rubber glue etc.? Mine is coming detached and I want to re-glue it before it distorts. Thanks All!

Contact Cement

I have no idea if this is this works better than other things, but it does work.

Contact Cement is great or there is weatherstrip

cement. I would probably use the contact type. Ray

3m Weatherstrip Seal

Comes in yellow and black, available at most auto shops and does not attack paint, fiberglas, gelcoat or the rubber seal itself. An alternative is marine grade (3m again, of course) silicone seal. Good stuff and remains flexible. Lets you know well in advance when to reseal.

Glue your gasket with this...

While contact cement & silicone will work to some extent, we have used something called "Zap-a-Dap-a-Goo" in the model airplane business whenever we need to glue difficult items together. It is also more commonly available as "Shoe-Goo", 'cuz it's great for glueing shoe soles back on! It sticks tenaciously to virtually anything, it dries clear (contact and rubber cements don't), stays pliable, its impervious to weather, oil, and model airplane glow fuel (in case you want to fly a seaplane off your boat!), and it can be pulled off (kinda difficult) if you ever want to change the weatherstrip! As an added bonus, you can even mold it with a wet finger before it dries. I promise you it won't hurt either the rubber OR the gelcoat!
