Glow Plugs for M25XPB in Catalina 310

Hey All,

I recently decided to replace my glow plugs after noticing that how long I ran the glow plugs had no influence on the engine start time. I also noticed that I had only a couple of amps of current draw with the key turned forward in the glowing position.

I didn't want to pay the $123/ea. for the Universal branded ones, so I figured I would try cross-referencing to Kubota using the handy Kubota D1005 parts catalog that I got from the farm engine parts supplier Messicks (attached).

Messicks's D1003 catalog lists two glow plug part numbers for that engine. After comparing photos I took a gamble and ordered Kubota 1G679-65512 for $35.53 each (Kubota #1G679-65512 PLUG, GLOW)

I was pleased to find that my old glow plus came out easily with old a gentle pull with some pliers after unthreading.

The Kubota plugs looked identical to the ones in the engine.

2 of 3 of the old ones tested bad, AND it turns out the ring terminal was not properly crimped where the glow plug wire met the solenoid.

With the new plugs and a fresh crimp, I now see expected ~30amps of draw when glowing, and the engine started instantly in chilly ~50 something degree weather.

I hope this helps someone freshen up their glow plugs!

Seems like a lot of power but it is one fourth of an ampere hour for 30 seconds. A fresh cool alternator will put that back into the battery in less than 30 seconds.
