I need to replace my Danforth Global Balance Compass mounted on the pedestal since the globe is cracked and leaking oil. I am unable to find what size it is and Hunter hasn't been very responsive. My boat is a Hunter 33 - 2005. I can go back and measure the hole in the pedestal but thought someone might know what size compass I need to mount. Thanks

I have, but the globe is cracked almost fully around the circumference which I believe makes it impossible to rebuild (although I could be wrong) and so for the approximately $150 I can get a new one I will likely just do that.

Sounds suspicious too inexpensive for a new compass at least given what i saw on my 30. Had my antique Gemini rebuilt was roughly that and they almost always replace the globe. If you can find a quality new one for that price it may well make sense to replace but the rebuilt I had done made my old friend look new.

No matter what adjusting and swinging the compass is the hard part of replacement or rebuilding.

For any that may care, the Danforth compass that came installed with the boat apparently is not serviceable and I was told can be replaced by a Ritchie compass for around $140 including shipping costs.

Thats what we did on our H31. Purchased the new Ritchie compass to replace the old Danforth, and it fits just fine. New light is cool to. But they are telling you the true skinny. In the rebuilding world I fine that most manufactors would rather sell you new, than rebuild your old. But there are still some reliable manufactors out there who will do the job. Good luck.
