10 yr old Yanmar 1Gm10 w/ Kanzaki KM2P transmission. (Refurbished)

Cone clutch is glazed, and I know I'm in for a rebuild over the winter, but just trying to make it through the rest of the season (mid-November). An old salt suggested I try draining the oil and putting in kerosene or acetone to de-glaze it.

Does this sound dangerous to anyone, or has anyone tried it with success?

Thanks

Works with diesel for Hurth transmissions. Hurth on the phone many years ago recommended to drain all transmission fluid, replace with diesel, run for about an hour in a mix of gears, drain diesel and replace with transmission fluid.

David, I drained the transmission oil and put in the proper amount of diesel fuel. Then I went out on the lake and ran at near WOT for 2 hrs. Today I drained the diesel and put in 340ml of the same oil the engine uses. Then I took the boat out on the lake to test it.

Granted, the test conditions weren't perfect ( 15 kts gusting to 24 with 3ft swells) but I was able to get 6+ kts ddw, and 5+ crashing into the waves.

That'll get me in and out of the marina until haul out day!
Thanks for the helpful reply.
