it can be done
Painting your boat just takes patience and lots of preparation. I have painted two sailboats. The first was an old Lido 14 that I still have for 1 design races. The next is my Catalina 22, of which I painted the ugly gold non-skid with a nice cream color that compliments the white gelcoat on the rest of the boat. Make sure that you've cleaned and sanded everything really well. On my non-skid I used a small steam cleaner to get ALL the dirt and stuff from within the diamond pattern. Then, you need to prime. I purchased the PETIT Easy Poxy and followed their directions to the letter, using a painting pad. Both boats really look nice. For the anti slip, I put a little of the INTERLUX Intergrip in my First coat. (2 coats total) On my old Lido 14 I have 3 coats over primer on all smooth surfaces. Each coat was fine sanded before the next. It took several weeks. My Catalina 22 took 4 days of prep, prime, and 2 coats, with lots of time in between to allow a previous coat to really dry well (two weekends with weekdays to dry). Good luck.
