Getting there...

I rolled the paint on my outriggers yesterday, so today, I wet-sanded them and compounded them. I admit it is a little scary to start sanding paint that seems pretty glossy already, but I really want to get a fine finish.
Here are the results so far.
The first photo is of the starboard outrigger. I started painting early, and the air was cool, but it got suddenly hot, and this hull was in direct sun. The paint flashed quickly and was not as glossy as the paint in the shadows.
The second photo is of the port outrigger after wet-sanding and compounding. On reflection, pun intended, I think I could have wet-sanded longer and gotten even better distinction. I am getting there, but time and weather are always factors in my line of work and here in Upstate New York. I am self-employed, so time off is sometimes hard to come by, and the weather here is pitiful too much of the time. So much so that we just contracted to have a 30 x 40 storage building built for the boats.
Anyway, here are the pictures, before and after...
Edit: interestingly, only the bows got a little hazy as the paint flashed very quickly while I was tipping out bubbles. It left the surface more stippled that in the part in the shade.

It really shows what patience and work can combine to create. Beautiful.

Nice work. Inspiring. I think I should take something for this urge to want to paint.
The building will be a real help as you go forward. Snow on the roof, a wood stove heating the inside, just you and your boat.:)
