To anyone who might have some ideas or experience with this... Problem: During the winter, get the boat off the trailer and on to blocks so the trailer can be worked on. Constraints: No marina nearby. No water nearby. On dry land in the desert. My initial thought was to hire a crane to lift the boat off the trailer and place it one to prestaged blocks. Second thought was to raise the boat on the trunk a foot or so, then place blocks and try and roll the trailer out from underneath. Any ideas? Scott

fork lift

Hi Scott I have a retail yard dwn the street and I can get a fork lift that can handle the job for about 125.00 much cheaper than a crane. I just sling two slings in the middle of the boat and then lift away. The boat only weighs 2500 to 3000 depending on how many have to haves are one the boat. Another way that I have see on this site is to use jacks and then set the boat on a cradle that is built around the trailer so that the trailer will slide out. I would check the archies on this as there has been a lot on the topic and some cery good ideas.

Look Harder for Water

If the trailer works at all, I'd sure look hard for water (like drive many miles) to remove the boat. C22's don't take much, just a little more than a desert mirage.

C-22 Hoist

There is a schematic diagram at the link listed below that details how to build a catalina 22 hoist that one can use to lift a boat for repair or for storing for the winter. The author of the web site is active on a Catalina 22 listserve that I read and is listened to with respect when he writes his opinion on maintenance questions that we novices generate. I expect that he could give you more details on how he put this hoist together if you wrote to him directly via e-mail. You can get his e-mail address at his website www.slowflight.net. I've stumbled across other descriptions and pictures of different boat owners have lifted their boats for repair at other web sites. If I can find them again, I'll post them here in the next day or so..... Good luck with your heavy lifting..... Tony Carlisle Jackson, Mississippi
