Greetings from a Hunter owner. I just received my May/June issue of Good Old Boat which has a really nice article about George O'Day and the history of O'days. It really made me reminisce about my first boat, an O'day Day Sailer which I just loved. My favorite story from the article: "Miriam (George's wife) remembers a telling event back around 1951 or so that involved the O'Day warehouse outside of Boston. Someone was breaking in and stealing parts. She suggested that George hire a watchman or at least buy a watchdog. He said, 'No, I have another idea.' When spring came, he began getting up early every Saturday morning and disappearing until noon. The thefts stopped. Miriam asked him what he could possibly be doing on Saturday mornings to thwart vandals? Turns out he'd put a sign up on the building advetising free sailing lessons Saturday mornings at 7:00 AM. Rather than rounding up the wagons and defending his property, he reached out to the area youngsters and offered them something they probably couldn't have found or afforded elsewhere--friendship and some great time on the water." Quite a guy and a worthwhile read. Gary Wyngarden S/V Shibumi H335

Good magazine, good article

Interesting though that, as I understand Dan Spurr's article, George O'Day didn't have a whole lot to do with designing or building the cruising boats that bear his name. Has anyone written a thorough history of the ODay boat line? My 272 was built in 1986 by Lear Siegler, and according to the article, the following year ODay was sold again and renamed the O'Day Corporation. By 1989 it was gone along with a lot of other quality boat lines. I've bugged Karen and Jerry a couple of times via e-mail to write an article about ANY ODay model, but haven't seen one in Good Old Boat yet. Have a great season, Tom

How can I obtain Good Old Boat? I don't recall seeing it book stores. Am I overlooking it?
