Have been spending the last few days looking at old threads, fascinating stuff.
I can't believe I've missed it, but I remember my my mate Geoff telling me something about an Oday forum a few years back.
And sure enough it is this forum, I found him in the "owners section", unfortunately Geoff went saling better waters a few years back he is sadly missed at the club but is boat is still here and being used a lot (mariner original, built in Australia) it didn't have a name at the time but it's call "Day'O" now like the song and we never miss an opportunity to sing it.

Geoff reminds me of my old pal and fellow YC member Walter. I lost track of the number of boats Walter owned while he was a member of the club. He loved sailing and was very knowledgeable about yacht design and boats in general. We lost him several years back of Esophageal Cancer and I miss him like crazy. He was 76. He was a retired electrical engineer and worked for MIT in Cambridge Ma. Prior to that he was in the USCG so he paid his dues.
One thing I liked about Walter was that if he wanted something, he'd go right out and buy it.
As he got older he would get into these low periods in his life and say to himself, "I'm getting too old to be moving about in these sailboats."
Then the next thing you know, Walter would sell his boat and in a matter of two weeks he'd be kicking himself for do it. He had a Cape Dory Typhoon at the time. Then he bought an 86 O'Day 222 like I have that was in immaculate condition and only used on a lake three times.
Then he bought a Chris Craft 24'. Somewhere along the line he owned an O'Day 192, a Cruiser Inc powerboat, and an O'Day Daysailor three.

I used to tell him, "Walter, when you get into these low moods, just wait a couple of weeks for them to pass." "Don't do anything drastic."
The last boat he bought was a 2001 Mac 26. He bought a new 50 Hp Honda outboard and a Bimmini Top for the boat and he loved it. He had a lot of fun with it for one or two seasons and was planning on future seasons but God had other plans for him. Perhaps he and Geoff are up there right now talking about sailboats. We miss you Walter. RIP.

Just the same guy in a different country!
Geoff use to make everything though, he was an motor mechanic, he would fix everybody's car at the club never say no.
He had many boats one of is last one was called Tardis a small keel boat and the Oday.
When I joined the club he was a "cruiser" and one day he said to me that he though that at some time he owned my boat, then he said that he had one just the same at he's place that he didn't use, he said that he would bring it in and have a few run in the wags for fun, well the fun didn't last long after a few races we couldn't stop him and he had he's boat rigged like Australia 2 (sorry) and winning every 2nd race!
As your mate I miss him a lot.

I think that our lives are a lot more richer for knowing these nice people and they will always live in our hearts. Walter was more of a day sailor and he didn't like going alone. I, on the other hand was a cruiser and if I couldn't talk my wife into going with me, I'd go alone. Since my wife "swallowed the anchor" years ago and decided to stay at home, I take my First Mate Penelope with me everywhere I sail. There's one good thing about dogs on boats. They don't give you any s#&@.

I've been missing a sweet lady I met with open arms (literally!) when we joined our club. She had reluctantly sold her boat for a pittance after her husband went to sail in better waters. She was in better shape than many half her age walking several miles a day. A sudden massive stroke sent her to hospice where she still insisted on taking care of her visitors until her last day. I miss that sweet lady who I hope has joined her beloved husband sailing to far away places with rollers in her hair.

You are absolutely right they live on in our hearts and never forgotten. She could always make me laugh with her antics. That is a priceless memory. SC

I really miss the old members of our club who are gone. I miss those summertime gabbing sessions sitting out on the picnic tables under the trees watching the boat traffic on the river. These old folks loved the club and they worked hard to earn money for the club doing fundraisers and such.
Hopefully we'll all be reunited with them again.
