Genset.... is bigger always better/needed

I will bet it is because of low hours and sitting un used.
I purchased my boat when still leaving in LI ,NY,Ct Hunter dealer and was in a marina most times for first 2 years and so no much using my Gen,had a problem with a relay and when I told
FP the low hours he said you are going to ruin your Gen and need to use it more.
I have been living in Florida and yes use it for AC a lot and also have 2 big solar panels and don't
Need to run the Gen as much when not needing AC but when out cruising which we do a lot I run the Gen almost every night only maybe a hour but if wife wants to use microwave or hair dryer or make hot water for dishes or showing which we do most showing on our boat rather than in a marina and what I saying we don't try to conserve our batteries or charging which 90%
is done by solar we use our FP Gen and it keeps starting like a champ and keeps running great.
I tell my wife the Gen really needs to be used because of my solar and she is a happy wife when we are out for 3 weeks cruising usually 2 to 3 times a. years plus many weekends.

Thanks Nick.... That is also what I have heard regarding sitting idle. I am ordering the repair manual and will attempt to start this weekend to see what is going on. We too go on a couple long trips as well as Friday to Sunday EVERY weekend during the boating months. With the generator it will extend the season and am looking forward to that!!
Hi Greg, just a follow-up note. Our Genset has three sensors that has nothing to do with the generator section output, but do protect the engine while unattended; coolant temperature, oil pressure and exhaust temperature. Any of those exceed preset limits will shut the engine off. There is also a circuit breaker for the generator section, but have never had to fool with that. As you say a service manual with it's trouble shooting guide is a good start. Please let us know what you find out.
