Gen Set Location Thoughts
If you get a diesel gen set, which would be the nicest, the problem is they weight a LOT!! Probably in the couple hundred pounds range? The problem I see is if this is put in the aft end of the boat it'll put a lot of weight in the end which is not good, and, it would be difficult to service. So, my thought would be to put it just forward of the waterlift muffler and in the corner between the engine room and the bulkhead to the head, and down low as possible but watching out for "sea level" with regard to installation requirements.Other advantages is this would give a fairly short run to the battery compartment and, weight wise, put the weight in an area which can be easily carried by the boat. Also, if you went with 4 golf carts in the battery compartment (it's a very tight fit but an excellent location) the weight would be somewhat balanced and this would help keep the boat level and minimize list. This is an informative web site on gen sets: http://www.mastervolt.com/whispergenset/index.asp
