I'm preparing to mount genoarails to the new deck of my Oday 22. Before I start drilling holes though I would like to make sure I put them in the right place!The rails are 3' 3'' long. I intend to buy a 150 % genoa as an extra.My question: how far forward (in relation to the mast) should I place the rails, and how far from the side of the boat?

Genoa Track

Wiebe -You should mount the rails as far inboard as you can without hanging up on everything on the boat. The closer inboard the better you can point - to a limit. Most boats have the track on the rails because its easier to deal with a sail if it doesn't have to go over the lifelines all the time. Its up to you.As far as fore and aft placement, you want the sheet to essentially bisect the angle between the leech and the luff of the sail. You'll need to figure out where that big genny will sit, trace the path of the sheet, and install the track accordingly.Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Genoa tracks in the wrong place?

I have the tracks mounted on the last toe rail to aft on my boat. I only tried the genoa once, but that seems awfully far back to have it. Listening to Wiebe, I'm thinking these weren't factory?? The genoa was getting hung up on my lifelines, as talked about in a diffrent post, and those will be coming out. Should I move up the rails, or are these rails meant for something else possibly?Thanks,Josh

Rails are mounted way back

My rails are mounted back aft as far as possible outside the cockpit. They are set up on teak beds and thrubolted.I would say they are original. I wish I could draw you a diagram...
