genoa track slides..

Hello,Does anyone recall how wide the vega track is?Also, where to purchase the track slide with the screw down rather than the spring loaded pin (I am assuming we need the screw down type on our boats).Thanks,Roy

The genoa track on Snipp is 1 inch, so I assume it's the same on all.
I replaced mine with the spring loaded type, which seems to work fine.

Hi,

Mine are 20 mm, and I have seen that others have that size too. Both track and slide are bronze.
20 mm is hard to get (25mm/1" is most common for small boats).
Barton Marine has a few for 20 mm (Redirect to Index). Part no. 22 301, it is spring loaded, but works fine, even if the countersunk screw holes in the track, are not that deep.

My head just exploded....1 inch is 25.4 mm.
0.78 inch is 20 mm.That's a big difference.I'm going to the sailboat store in a little while. Guess I'll just buy everything and return what I don't need.Roy

Hey Roy, Just to complicate mattters you should know that the 20mm track is bolted approximatley every 3 1/2 inches. One inch track is bolted every 4 inches. When I replaced my track I filled the holes with dowel rod and eboxyed over. Careful though. Some epoxy could drip through. Leave one hole as a starting point to put down new track. Use the new track as a jig to drill the new holes. Should be able to do the entire project for around $200.00 USD. Best of luck, Walt

So I pull my genoa track slide off and take it to work to measure.I get the idea to check for markings..... maybe I can still buy another one from the original manufacturer...... inspecting, I think I see some tiny markings underneath, but the bronze is too coroded..... Alcohol and a brush!.... microscope!...............I can see......G-O-O-D on the first line........(I feel like the kid on the movie "Christmas Story" with the secret decoder ring.........Good? Could this be some type of quality control marking?.......... Then the second line becomes clear........T-H-I-N-G-S.......... Good Things..........wait... that's the name of my boat.

Ok, I played hooky from work yesterday because the autum wind here on the chesapeake has been just too good to miss the last few days. At the small marinia where my friend keeps his boat is another vega... I boarded it because somehow his detatched anchor looked like it was falling off the boat. Then I looked at his track slides. They appeared wider and different than mine. Mine are 20mm wide as I have now measured them. Mine are made of bronze and don't have any pin holes in them. This other vega had what looked like aluminum track slides and it looked wider than mine. It also had pin holes in it. Roy

I believe you boarded a Series II Vega. They have a 1" aluminum Genoa track, also recessed cockpit locker lid latches, a wood 'eyebrow' over the engine gauges, an aluminum-colored mast (Selden?) with the thru-mast reefing handle, and a few other differences.

Only late Sereis II and Series III have the aluminium tracks. All Series I and most Series II have the bronze tracks.
