We are new sailors and full of questions. I will limit myself to a couple this go around. 1. I have my mainsail and what I am guessing is my jib. I also have what I think is another jib in a bag. This extra sail is what I would call new. It is rigged like the jib I sail with except the brass connectors have what looks like plastic protectors over the sail cloth. I have not sized it to the jib I sail with to verify the same size or bigger / smaller. So my question is.....what is a genoa and how do I know if one of my sails is not a jib or genoa? 2.I have a bow pulpit on my boat. What should I use to clean and polish the stainless steel?

Genoa/Jib

Generally a jib when it fits into the foretriangle by 100%. If it is larger than the foretriangle, then it is a Genoa or Genoa jib. If is it smaller than the foretriangle then it is a jib, generally a storm jib. It does get a little more complicated than this but don't think we need to go there. There are a number of products that clean stainless, you just need to locate the one you can work with. Either go to your local hardware, car shop or boat store and read up on some products. Or, do a google search for stainless cleaners.
