I have heard recently about using a snatch block on the end of the boom to run the genoa lead through downwind to pull the clew outboard with out using a whisker pole. Obviously not as good as a whisker pole, I wonder if anyone has tried this and how did it go? Also does it have a name? Thanks. Goodwinds, Dave M s/v DAMWEGAS

Sailing downwind with an AWA above 120 or so will collapse the genoa due to wind shadow from the main. At that point poling out in whatever form you use will be useless. Winging the genoa would be a far more preferable choice. On a reach where outboard sheeting is needed you would only have to move the lead block to the toe rail and forward.
