We recently bought a 281 (1996) and want to fit a Genniker, but are unsure what would be the best attachment for the tack on the bow. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure which sail you'll choose, but my 323 came with the spinnaker package. A piece of line on the tack goes through a supplied block on a padeye as close to the bow as you can get it. Their plan was to go through the block, then secure to a deck cleat. It is an advantcge if you run this line through a cam/stopper in the cockpit area to make adjustments without going forward.

I'll be interested in the responses because I've been toying with the same idea. I was hoping that I could rig something to the anchor roller.

I don't see why you couldn't go down behind the roller, under it, up over from the front then astern to come back to a cleat or wherever. If you put the line down the front of the roller, it could jump off if the sail gets ahead of the roller. It would nicely put the luff in front of the pulpit. Just watch for chafe if the pennant goes of to the side. You could always put a heavier loop of line around the roller to raise the turning point so it clears any chafing objects.... Better yet, if your roller bracket has a hole for an anchor-securing line, you could shackle a block to that hole.

genniker fitting

Do not forget that the metal anchor roller front piece is in samak, a not very strong metal alloy. This part is only fixed by three screws placed at the back side.... My 281 had a small extension fixed on the anchor roller base as a step up facility. I placed the gennaker line on it, but the wind force broke the metal anchor plate in two pieces....The "moment" kgm was in exces of the breaking point...greetings Paul, polaris

Genniker fitting on B281

We also have a B281 (1996) and have had a Genniker made and now spending a lot of time trying to workout the best way of fitting the tack line. We recently became aware of Selden "Bowsprit Extensions" which fit straight on the deck. Has anyone had experience with these?

Thanks

spinnaker tack line 281

I have been adding all of the stuff for a spinnaker/whisker pole this year.. I just received a spinnaker for my 281, and am planning to fly it this weekend for the first time. Planing on putting a block on a piece of webbing under the anchor roller to an ATN Tacker on the furled genoa. I figured this would keep the loads on the bow roller assembly very small. The tack line then goes back to a block with cleat on a padeye between the two front hatches. I'll let you know how it works out. If you want to discuss offline, email me - sven.finnis@gmail.com

Thanks, Sven Beneteau 281 "Tradition"
