Is there a small gnerator suitable to place under aft seats which will run the Mermaid 16000 BTU unit? Sure gets hot in Texas.

Generator$$

There really isn't room for a 6 or 8 kW generator on a 34 but; For the price of a generator I figure you can pay marina dockage fees and hook up to shore power for a good many nights. I am installing AC on my 340 and on the hottest humid summer days July & August here in NC we will stay at the marina and use the boat as an air conditioned condo. We have been fortunate this year the nights have been cool enough to sleep on the boat with only a fan. You folks in Texas have been getting toasted. Incredible!

Seapower

I have a hunter 40 with A/C. I use a seapower unit that attaches like a super-charged alternator off the front of the engine. I have no problem running my A/C at about 1500 rpm. With less I can run most any other a/c powered appliance. The compressor spike needs some RPM or it will trip. It is simple to install with a slight modification under the companionway steps. It is a lot less expensive and works great without a separate generator.

Quiet! Please

I also live in Texas and here in the Galveston Bay area it would not be a great idea to fire up a generator while anchored in a quiet cove or bayou with other boats. Get some good, low amp. fans and enjoy the peacefullness of a night away from the city... Ron

Generator

I've not yet installed it, but I picked up a 3800 watt Coleman portable gas generator at Home Depot for a rediculous $385. It fits under the aft seats in the cockpit and is self contained (no electric start though). I plan on using it to run either the AC or our small (600 watt) microwave when anchored at moorings. At that price, even if it only lasts one season it is probably worth it. On a separate topic, does anyone have a manual for an '83 or '84 H34. I would pay hansomley for a photocopy. Thanks. Rob
