I ordered Hunter 33 and wanted to have a generator installed. My dealer said Hunter 33 is not big enough to install a generator and advised me to buy a portble generator. I want to know if any one of you installed a generator in your Hunter 33; what brand/kind and how much you paid. Thanks. marvel

Honda EU2000
I know this does not answer your question but...I have been looking at the EU2000 for a while now. Small and light enough to fit in a cockpit locker. Quiet too. The added benefit is I can take it home for winter use (should I lose power here in New England). You should be able to find them for around $1K. Andy

The port Cockpit locker may work
I was thinking of putting one in mine and spoke to an installer, but moved up to a bigger boat. The only reason to get one would be for the AC. An inverter could run the microwave and any other small appliance you may need. I would add a separate house battery bank as well.

The Honda EU2000 will run a newer model
air conditioner with a "soft start" capacitor up to 18,000 btu in cool mode -- with no other load. It doesn't have the power to run reverse cycle heat, though.

running a large A/C unit is the increased fuel consumption. We run a 13,000 btu unit with no problem. We get a burn rate of approximately .20 gallons/hour which roughly translates to a running time of around 5 hours. To stop the early morning feedings we added an outboard auxiliary tank. This auxiliary tank boosts the fuel capacity to almost 4.5 gallons providing a run time of some 20 hours. When we go out we carry 5 gallons of gas for every two days we plan to spend on the hook. We run A/C all night and then in the morning we turn the a/c off to run coffe pot and microwave oven. In early afternoon and morning well run battery charger. The honda is very reliable, quiet and will continue to run under a thunderstorm.

What A/C unit and model are you operating? I have a 2007 mermaid 12000 btu cool only model. do you know whether or not an EU 2000 would run it?

Your reply makes most sense to me. My dealer quoted me today $13,000 for Panda 4200 generator installed to my Hunter 33. My only question is that Panda 4200 has only 3700 continuous watts with peak 4100 watts and if it is enough to run A/C, and other things. My Hunter has 25 galon tank of diesel and I guess the generator will use diesel from the 25 galon tank. How long will it last on A/C? Thanks for your reply. Marvel
