Thinking about adding a generator to my 40.5 I would like to hear from anyone who has done this, which make did you use and where did you install it. Any advise will be appreciated. Henry

Gee, Henry, No Answer Yet?

You might call H&S Service Department in San Diego. I think they put them in the Starboard laz. I was looking at Apollo units, specifically the 12V version, figuring the 2500 watt inverter had plenty of AC capasity. Appolo is in Costa Mesa. Balmar had a nice one too, for half again as much. Also, see page 64 of the new SAIL mag. Next Generation Power Engineering has a vertically, rather than horizontally-oriented unit, 2.4 and 3.4 KW. Might give better packaging options. Good luck. Sounds like you want to run that AC off the grid. Hope to see you two soon. If not-- will see you at the rendezvous. Rick D.

Done it. Got details galore.

Henry, I personally installed a Westerbeke 5KW genset in the starboard laz when I purchased the boat in the spring of 1998. Since we are on a mooring, we live by the genset. I have all the details including how to reinforce the floor to take the load. Have pictures too, plus the battery relocation details. Why don't you email me and I can send you the photos and details? I am in the owners directory. Sorry for the late answer. I just got back from a week's sail to Martha's Vineyard. Rich Stidger
