re;cored decks and water intrusion!
I have a "79" vintage 30. I understand that the 31 was the same hull as the 30 except for the extension of the transom for a swim platform. the cabin roof and decks were balsa cored.the coreing on the decks started about 2" inboard of the rail.the stansions are thru bolted in solid glass with backing plates and are a pain the wasuuuu to rebed. if they leak there's no chance they can damage any coring. the gennie tracks are thru bolted, but you have to be carefull when rebolting that you have large fender type washers below so as not to crush the cored deck. there were a few places where they fastened hardware to decks and coach roof with screws into the upper part of decks. these should be rebedded and thru bolted so they don't loosen again and leak. the chain plates must be watched closely. there is a slot cut thru the deck which is a common place for water pena. into the deck core. when rebedding don't fasten cover tightly right away. leave it about 1/8" high, then after about 24hrs when bedding compound has cured, tighten the rest of the way.another place water intrusion is commom is the hatch behind the mast,it likes to leak under the mounting collar. the mast collar is another place. one last place and i'm not sure about this one is the side port lites. on later models they went to the one piece plexi and i don't know how prone they were to leaking. the sides of the coach roof are hollow and any water pene. above and it will work its way down into the decks. oh yes the grab rails maybe another place for water to get in.capn jim"Que Pasa?"
