With the stick down for the winter I'm planning what maintenance should be done before it goes back up. For example lub the sheaves. Question how do you get to the axles? What type of lub? Do you pull the mast head? Please advise with any maint. tips. Thanks

Put Antisieze on Stainless Fastners

1. If you have any stainless fastners try to take them out, if you still can, and put some antisieze on the threads. Something like Lanocote or Never-seze. 2. Mast head and steaming lights: If they are Aqua-signal there are probably a couple long skinny bronze screws that hold the lens on. Put a dab of antisieze on the end of the thread where they go into a captive nut. 3. Electrical connection inside the Aqua-signal fixtures: Put some dielectric grease on the ends of the wires and the brass connector with the small set screw. The dielectric grease will help prevent or slow down further corrosion. Since many light problems are a result of corrosion, put a bit of dielectric grease on the metal tips of the festoon bulbs and their sockets. You're right, this is a good time to work on the mast and get it right for next year.

Remove the masthead fitting

On my 1987 H-31, which is similar to the 28.5, I have to remove the masthead to get at the axles for the halyard sheaves.
